Field full of weeds

I ATTENDED my grandson's soccer cup final match played at the Westbourne Oval on Sunday September 1. The field was in a shocking state, overgrown with weeds and not mowed.

How can anyone, let alone little under-9s, be expected to play on such a surface where it is near impossible to pass the ball! The upkeep of the Oval is a municipal responsibility, yet the metro wants to spend more millions on the Afcon tournament when it can't even properly maintain a popular venue such as the Oval.

Surely, the authorities can find a few "spare rands" somewhere to buy some weedkiller and a mower!
