DESPITE being reduced to 10 men in the second half, Callies beat NMMU Madibaz 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Pefa KO Cup at the campus on Friday.
The defending Premier League and KO Cup champions were made to struggle by Madibaz, whom they beat 3-0 in both their league matches earlier in the season.
In the semifinals Callies will play Forresters, who had a bye in the quarters.
There were close calls in both the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Premier League log-leaders Central Acemates were pushed all the way by tail-enders Highbury and eventually won 5-3.
Warriors edged out Squares 4-3.

MAXIMUM points from their two matches this weekend gave Bloom Callies top spot in Group A of the group stage of the Nafa Premier League Cup.
They beat Blackpool 2-1 and yesterday they thumped log-leaders Hotspurs 3-0.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Ebenezer on Saturday. Before the weekend Ebenezer did not have a single point to their credit. A goalless draw against Park United yesterday ensured Chatty United second spot and a place in the play-offs.
In Group B Glenville advanced to the play-offs with a 2-0 win over Saints on Saturday and a 3-2 win over Ramblers yesterday. With several matches being called off because of field markings , the second spot in Group B will be decided during the course of the week.
