Shootouts decide two quarters

TWO of the four quarterfinal matches in the Nodefa Pre-season KO Cup played at the Jabavu Stadium in KwaNobuhle on Saturday ended in penalty shootouts.

In the first match of the day, Premier League champions Kabah United Brothers edged out league runners-up City Style 3-2 on penalties after the scores were tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

In the third match of the day, Really Rangers ousted Golden Chiefs 5-4 on penalties. The full-time score was 1-1.

In the other two matches, Highland Spurs beat Flamingo 2-1 and New City Stars beat Uitenhage Stars 1-0.

The winner will pocket R3500, a trophy and medals and the runners-up R2500 and medals. The losing semifinalists will receive R1000 each.



DEFENDING Nebfa Sedgars Premier League champions PE United went down 2-1 to PE Sundowns at the weekend.

Newly promoted Bold Tigers also got off to a poor start, going down 2-0 to Red City.

The eight matches produced a mere 18 goals, with 2-0 the biggest winning margin.

The results were: PE Sundowns 2 PE United 1; Roaring Tigers 1 Pondo Stars 0; City Lads 1 Bush Bucks 1; Real White City 1 City Defenders 1; Winter Rose 0 Stinging Bees 2; Red City 2 Bold Tigers 0; Dodgers 2 Eastern Jumpers 1; CCX Callies 2 Boast Pirates 1.
