PORT Elizabeth's Mount Road police cluster members' crime prevention operation at the weekend led to more than 100 arrests for various crimes, including murder, robbery and drug-dealing.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said 131 arrests were made during the operation which started on Friday morning and ended on Saturday afternoon, in different parts of the city. "The crime prevention operation focused on all our priority crimes such as armed robberies, burglaries and drug-related crimes," Janse van Rensburg said.
Among the successes was the arrest of two murder suspects, six for assault to do grievously bodily harm, six for illegal possession of firearms, and 41 for being drunk and disorderly.
Another 31 suspects were arrested for "either dealing or being in possession of drugs" during an operation in Helenvale.
"Various addresses were visited and a large quantity of drugs was confiscated from these premises," she said.
Drugs that were found included mandrax, dagga, tik, khat and prescribed medication, "that is being sold and added to the drugs".
The arrests also included several people who were in the streets and were searched.
Toy guns and knives were confiscated.
