DESPATCH put up a brave fight but eventually stumbled at their second hurdle when they lost 41-30 to Durban team College Rovers in the National Club Rugby Championship in Rustenburg yesterday.
After both sides won easily in the first round, Rovers' quarterfinal win has made them one of the strong contenders for the title and they will be aiming to continue their run when they play East London team Old Selbornians tomorrow.
Old Boys sneaked into the last four on the back of a 28-26 win over Falcons club Brakpan.
Tournament favourites Pretoria Police enhanced their status when they defeated Durbanville-Bellville, of Western Province, in the feature match of the day.
The Pretoria team ran out 36-25 winners and now come up against home team Rustenburg Impala, who earned their semifinal berth with a 31-19 win over Johannesburg outfit Roodepoort.
In the plate event, SWD team Blanco suffered their second straight loss when they went down to Welkom Rovers.
