WHILE our beloved country crumbles politically around us, I wish to comment on the far more important subject of Springbok rugby.
This concerns some advice to coach Heyneke Meyer – because he needs it – and I have the qualifications to provide it, as my rugby CV will show that I played a few games for Grey third team shortly after the rinderpest and though I have not played rugby since (other than one outing at university for an "Old Crocks" team), I know everything there is to know about the game.
First, get Pat Lambie off the bench and on to the field before we lose him overseas for ever!
Then bring back Gio Aplon and Keegan Daniel into the squad. Yes, I know they are not huge like some other wings and flanks, but they are mobile and know how to finish off a promising movement with a try.
Start with young Johan Goosen at flyhalf and bring Francois Hougaard back into his correct position at scrumhalf, Lambie at fullback and Aplon in Hougaard's position on the wing.
And stop kicking away good ball – the opposition laps it up!
I have several other suggestions, but I doubt if Meyer will listen if I tell him too much.
