Bay schoolkids’ find dead body

19 September 2012
A GROUP of Port Elizabeth schoolchildren made a gruesome discovery yesterday when they came across the lifeless body of a man hanging from a bush on school property.

The children – some of them as young as six – were playing at Sipho Hashe Combined School in Kwazakhele when they found the body just before 8am.

The fully dressed unidentified man was slumped back with a green nylon rope around his neck tied to a branch. He had no visible marks or stab wounds.

School principal Sisa Dlula said he and his staff were horrified by the incident. He said the children had been playing in the field and when the older children realised there was a body, they had immediately notified the principal's office.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said the man was about 38 years old. Foul play is not suspected. – Hendrick Mphande
