Wrong to ridicule Zuma

I TOTALLY abhor and am disappointed at Prof Jonathan Jansen for ridiculing our president, Jacob Zuma, in the presence of children ("Don't follow in footsteps of Zuma or state, pupils urged", September 7).

This type of speech breaks down the very moral fibre Jansen purports to advocate.

This type of behaviour by Jansen encourages the youth to show disrespect towards older persons and it also tell the youth that they can undermine authority.

Why Jansen chose to ridicule the president in the presence of children deserves questioning – if he said this to an adult audience it could be understood.

Jansen reminds one of the story of Noah and his sons in the Bible – read Genesis 9:20-29. One of Noah's sons, Ham (Jansen), found Noah drunk and naked in his tent, and made fun and a mockery of his father.

The other two sons of Noah went and covered his nakedness because of the great respect they had for their father.

I strongly believe Jansen owes the president and the people of this country an apology.
