Bay urgently needs more refuse trucks

DUE to the bad state of the metro's waste trucks, they are more in the workshop for repairs than they are on the roads to collect the residents' refuse!

Refuse removal is a basic service every resident is entitled to.

I am shocked to see that heaps of black bags and illegal dumping next to the Bethelsdorp road (just off Uitenhage Road) have been lying there for weeks and not removed due to the lack of working trucks. Dogs are ripping open the bags and it is now looking like a rubbish dump next to this main road.

I want to urge budget and treasury to find R7-million on the current budget to enable waste management to purchase additional vehicles to ensure that our city stays one of the cleanest in the country.

This much needed money will also ensure that those areas whose refuse is only collected fortnightly can then also be removed weekly as is the case in the rest of the metro.

If the metro can find R13.4-million unbudgeted money for the Afcon soccer, it sure it can't be so difficult to find R7-million for basic service delivery to its people!
