AN Ethiopian man was seriously injured during an attempted house break-in in Valencia, Addo. Faizel Sulliman, 22, was shot in the chest and neck late Thursday evening.

Addo police are looking for the gunman who opened fire on  Sulliman and two other Ethiopian men.

Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said "it is alleged that at about 11.50pm the three Ethiopian man were asleep in a rented room in Valencia when they heard loud banging at the door. The person outside shouted for them to open the door".

"The men asked the person to identify himself as it was very late and they were sleeping. When they received no reply, the three men propped themselves up against the door in an attempt to prevent the person from kicking down the door. A shot was fired through the door, hitting Sulliman. The gunman then ran away,” Naidu said.

Sulliman sustained two wounds to his chest and neck and was taken to Kirkwood hospital for treatment.

"Police suspect the motive for the shooting could have been robbery. However, a case of attempted murder is under investigation.”

Anyone who can assist police in identifying the gunman is asked to contact SAPS Addo on (042) 233-8804.
