THE Port Elizabeth Football Association (Pefa) came tantalisingly close to making a clean sweep at the Safa-NMB Total Inter-district tournament which ended at the Adcock Stadium on Monday.
Besides winning the women's section and finishing runners-up in the men's section, Pefa players won several individual awards.
In the men's final, Pefa missed out on the winner's purse of R10000 when they lost 4-2 on penalties to Motherwell FA (Mofa). The teams were tied 0-0 at the end of regulation time.
Pefa pocketed R5000, with their manager, Luthando Lubisia, winning the manager of the tournament award.
On their way to the final, Pefa beat Kuygafa 5-0, Wafa 1-0 and Nafa 1-0 in the group stage.
In the semifinals, they beat Nodefa 2-1 with Desmond Simulambo scoring on either side of the break.
Mofa beat Zwifa and IFA 3-1 in the group stage. In the semifinals, they scored an easy 3-0 win over Peefa. Both Nodefa and Peefa received R2500 each.
In the women's category, Pefa were in outstanding form from the outset, thrashing Wafa 7-0 and Zwifa 3-0. In the semis, they kept a clean sheet once again, beating Nafa 2-0.
They conceded their first goal of the tournament in the final when they beat Nodefa 2-1.
The winner's purse in the women's category was R5000 with the runners-up receiving R3000. The losing semifinalists received R1000 each.
