TWO Port Elizabeth bands will share the stage with one of South Africa's greatest rock outfits, Prime Circle, in a sunset concert to take place in the city at the weekend.
Centrestage favourite Wayne Kallis and his newly formed band, Pistola, will open up for Prime Circle at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre at 5pm on Sunday.
Another band, The Stuart Reece Band, is also set to rock the stage on Sunday evening.
The Stuart Reece Band will also be performing tomorrow at The Music Kitchen in Mangold Street, Newton Park, at 7.30pm, where they will be joined by Port Elizabeth band Don't Panic.
The Prime Circle event was organised by publicist Michelle Campbell and Bay entertainment company Centrestage.
Prime Circle is one of South Africa's most successful bands, and the Port Elizabeth-born Kallis said he was over the moon that he had been given the opportunity to share the stage with musicians of their calibre.
Kallis formed Pistola in late 2010, but remained the sole member until earlier this year.
Now, with new members Gino Fabbri (drums), Andrew Warneker (bass guitar) and Arno Erasmus (guitar), the band is expected to grow in popularity. Kallis is the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter who shot to fame through his involvement with the popular Centrestage group.
He said Pistola was born to provide local music lovers with energetic and heartfelt rock music.
This is their first live performance as a group.
Pistola's music is influenced by bands such as Pearl Jam and U2.
Kallis described his band's music as "passionate, melodic and energetic with a dash of humour and sarcasm when necessary".
Meanwhile, The Stuart Reece Band, whose greatest hits include Call The Doctor, Love Song and their latest single Let's Write About Us, have played alongside many popular South African acts, including Dan Patlansky, the Graham Watkins Project and Evolver One.
The band, which was formed in November 2010, has been extremely successful.
This is the second time they will perform with Prime Circle.
So, on Sunday, as the sun sets over Nelson Mandela Bay, music lovers will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with not only the local lads, but also the men behind the popular Prime Circle.
Tickets for Sunday's event cost R120 per person and can be purchased through Computicket.
DJs will provide the entertainment for the rest of the evening. This promises to be a show to remember.
