Kings wing Perez banned for a week

28 September 2012
FIERY EP Kings wing Paul Perez was banned for one week by an SA Rugby judicial committee yesterday after being red-carded for repeatedly punching a Pumas player during a First Division Currie Cup match last Friday.

This means Perez will be available for the Kings' eagerly awaited First Division semifinal next Friday against a team that still has to be decided.

Perez could have been banned for two weeks, but Kings chief executive Anele Pamba said the Samoan international was only handed down a one-week ban because of extenuating circumstances.

Earlier this week, Pamba said Perez had been suffering from delayed post-traumatic stress at the time of the incident, after he was robbed at gunpoint in his Summerstrand home. - George Byron
