The price of petrol would rise by at least 21 cents a litre on Wednesday, the energy department said on Friday (28/09/2012).
The price of 93 Octane would increase 21 cents a litre and 95 Octane by 23 cents.
The price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content would increase by 39.16 cents a litre, and that with a 0.005 percent sulphur content by 40.16 cents a litre.
The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin would increase by 44 cents a litre and the maximum retail price for LP Gas would be three cents a kilogram.
The increase in petrol and diesel was partly due to a slate levy of 13.16 cents a litre. This levy is used to recover the monies owed to oil companies, due to the time delay in the adjustment of the petrol pump price.
The weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar increased the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 2.65 cents a litre, 2,80 cents a litre, and 2.79 cents a litre respectively. - Sapa
