Metro police urgently needed

MORE visible policing in the form of a metro police force is now needed more than ever.

I would like to question the position of MEC Helen Sauls-August. She announced the establishment of this unit.

Where is this municipality's spokesman when it comes to the state of crime in this once friendly city?

The municipality claimed it had ordered uniforms as well as additional transport for the metro police – who is it fooling? It is obviously fooling us who placed it in power.

Our children are unemployed matriculants with no criminal records who can be trained as municipal police officers to assist in the fight against crime. What crime prevention measures are in place, what is the next step forward?

We as the ratepayers of this metro would love some answers please. The SAPS here clearly needs the assistance of a municipal force just like in our sister cities.

The more visible policing, the better. We are getting killed, raped, robbed and hijacked here in Mandela Bay. Surely the MEC for safety and security should be held accountable for what is happening in this metro?

The fight in this metro is not against crime or to promote service delivery, but for personal gain. I can't sleep at night knowing I am a sitting duck in this metro while our mayor enjoys the services of VIP protection (shame on you, Mr Mayor!).
