MY deepest and sincere condolences to Jimmy Matyu's family and his friends ("Farewells, tributes for journalist Jimmy Matyu", October 1). He was really a true journalist, a gem of the township and a rare breed.
His writings and thinking represented the true reflection of a noble black man.
I used to enjoy reading his stories in the Evening Post and when you read them you were part of the story in the paper.
He worked as a journalist during the most trying and challenging time for a black journalist in particular in this country, whereby the working conditions for the black journalist was extremely difficult. He defied all the odds and made his mark.
I know it is very sad for the family to say goodbye to him. May his soul rest in peace.
