I FEEL strongly that newspapers should not publish letters like the one in Monday's Herald ("Rape charge a publicity stunt"). The letter (writer's name withheld) makes three statements which have not an iota of justification – indeed they are ignorant, uninformed generalisations about a serious and appalling case.

What public interest is served by publishing such a letter? None, whatsoever.
