ANIMAL lovers in the Bay – home to more than half the world's African penguins – can pledge their support for the endangered species by taking part in a penguin waddle this weekend.
Bayworld's message to the public is "we don't want your money honey, we want your love".
So, instead of asking for a monetary donation, Bayworld is asking each person "waddle you do to save the planet and its penguins?"
Waddlers, dressed in black and white, will be separated into two teams. The waddle takes place between tomorrow and Monday, with the two groups meeting up at Maitlands on the final day.
The first group will walk from Cape St Francis to Jeffreys Bay tomorrow, to Gamtoos on Saturday, to Van Stadens on Sunday, and then to Maitlands on Monday.
Meeting them at Maitlands will be the second group, which will walk from Bayworld to Willows tomorrow, to Prestons Liquor Store on Seaview Road on Saturday, to the Seaview swimming pool on Sunday, and then to Maitlands on Monday.
From there, participants are invited to a celebratory picnic with the penguins in the Bayworld Oceanarium between 4pm and 7pm.
Tickets cost R20 for adults and R10 for children. Bring your own picnic basket.
The public can choose the route they wish to waddle and can take part on as many days as they wish.
The first group will meet at Penguins Eastern Cape at the Cape St Francis Bay Lighthouse at 9am tomorrow, while the second group will meet at the same time at Bayworld.
Each participant will receive a complimentary ticket to the oceanarium to be used at any stage.
Waddlers must wear black and white or dress like a penguin. Banners, signs and flags are welcome.

Promises can include anything from using less electricity to living plastic free or picking up litter on beaches.
