NMMU offers bursaries to matric stars

12 October 2012

THE NMMU Athletics Club is on a mission to recruit new members by offering bursaries to Grade 12 athletes in their track and field meeting at NMMU tomorrow.

NMMU athletics manager Nellis Bothma said all track and field events would be covered during the meeting, but in certain events the top three athletes would receive prize-money.

"The top three winners could also qualify for an NMMU sport bursary if the athlete is going to be a first- year student in 2013 at our institution and compete for the Absa NMMU Athletics Club," Bothma said.

"Our objective is to try and keep all top athletes in the Eastern Cape."

He said the meeting was a senior EP league event and they were targeting athletes who were older than 17 years.

Bothma said this was the first time NMMU athletics had engaged in a drive to recruit fresh athletes, specifically matriculants, to join the university next year.
