Xhosa funnyman in PE for one night

NELSON Mandela Bay comedy fans, brace yourselves – Professional Black is headed to the Opera House in Port Elizabeth for one night only.

The popular show, by Xhosa comedian Loyiso Gola, marks the Late Night News with Loyiso Gola star's visit to the Bay on Saturday night.

Gola said the show, which starts at 8pm, was full of funny and hard-hitting punchlines. The name – Professional Black – was chosen to spark interest, ignite curiosity and provoke debate.

"Given the air time that the words 'Professional Black' have received in the South African media in recent times, people will have their preconceived notions and assumptions about what this title means," he said.

"The show will also highlight these and many other stereotypes that we have in our country today."

Gola has recentlyreturned from performing at the two biggest comedy festivals in the world – Montreal and Edinburgh.

His last show, Life & Times, saw him celebrating 10 years of performing comedy at sold-out venues around the country.

Gola's satirical news programme, Late Night News with Loyiso Gola, is watched by more than a million viewers each week.

Tickets for Professional Black are available from Computicket at R100.
