NEGOTIATORS spent hours talking yet another potential victim out of leaping from the Van Stadens "bridge of death" yesterday afternoon.
This is the third incident on the bridge just outside Port Elizabeth in less than a week.
A 28-year-old Port Alfred man jumped to his death from the bridge last Tuesday and, just a day later, another man was talked out of jumping by a Port Elizabeth truck driver.
Police spokeswoman Warrant-Officer Marianette Olivier confirmed yesterday's incident.
Olivier said the man was spotted on the bridge at about 1pm.
Eighty-five people have committed suicide by leaping from the bridge since it was opened in 1971.
Police negotiators managed to talk the man out of jumping. He was released into the care of his family afterwards. – Kathryn Kimberley
