ANOTHER attempt by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to recover about R4.4- million in unpaid rates and taxes from Africorp International Properties, headed by business tycoon Yusuf Jeeva, was delayed in the Port Elizabeth High Court this week after both parties agreed that the matter be removed from the court roll.
The matter was revived last year after mayor Zanoxolo Wayile ordered that legal action to recover unpaid municipal rates and taxes against Africorp be revived.
Summons for R4.4 million was issued on behalf of the municipality in 2007. It only dealt with allegations of unpaid rates on four properties up to that year based on auditors' reports. According to the summons, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality claimed that Africorp owed them unpaid rates totalling R4.4-million on four of its properties.
