Councillors' lashing spurs Hani to action

INTERIM city manager Themba Hani was rapped over the knuckles by Nelson Mandela Bay councillors for deviating from the competitive bidding process and signing off on 38 contracts without going to tender.

The councillors, at a full council meeting last week, said the deviations from the supply chain management system could affect the municipality's hopes for a clean audit report.

They wanted to know why some contracts were simply renewed every six months without going through the competitive bidding process.
