A PORT Elizabeth policeman, charged with robbing a Thornhill tavern in full uniform with his face covered, has been denied bail in the Port Elizabeth High Court.
Constable Mncebisi Lapulwana, of Motherwell, has been in custody since February when he was arrested by the Hawks for allegedly being involved in the tavern robbery.
It is alleged he was driving an official vehicle at the time.
However, his attorney, Peter Daubermann, told Judge Sytze Alkema yesterday that, based on the contents of the police docket, his client was likely to be acquitted.
According to papers before court, Lapulwana took a police van on an unauthorised trip to Thornhill in February.
