A sport washout

22 October 2012

THE persistent rain that battered South Africa and the Eastern Cape in particular over the past week played havoc with various sporting codes in Nelson Mandela Bay, with numerous weekend fixtures being washed out.

Port Elizabeth's two Safa provincial Second Division league teams, Bay Stars and Highbury, had their matches called off due to waterlogged pitches.

Stars were meant to play FC Buffalo at Gelvandale Stadium on Friday night while Highbury were to face Cacadu United at the NMMU Second Avenue campus field yesterday.

Both games were postponed due to waterlogged venues.

Soccer was also disrupted as matches in the Nodefa (KwaNobuhle and Despatch), Zwifa (Zwide), Mofa (Motherwell), Nebfa (New Brighton) and Safa NMB women's leagues were all postponed.
