THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will apply to the provincial and national governments to be declared a disaster area to access funding to repair massive flood damage to infrastructure, estimated at more than R600-million.

This figure is expected to climb to almost R1-billion when private property is taken into account and when the full extent of the damage becomes evident after the water subsides completely.
The flooding was so severe at Humewood Beach alone that it unearthed debris from the great flood of 1968.

Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile said yesterday the metro had suffered massive infrastructural damage and would look to alternative sources of funding for continued infrastructure maintenance.

I have been following stories covering the aftermath of the recent floods and the costs of repair. The thought that comes to mind is quite scary. With previous floods experienced by P.E and the EC, I wish to mentionroads that were hard hit by flood damage in recent years. 1. The old Van Staadens Pass and 2. The road that connects the N2 from Sundays River to Uitenhage's R75. The scenic Bloukrans pass is still closed. If our trusty and effecient government couldn't even afford to fix these isolated road damages, how in tarnation will they be able to cope with this widespread damage? I won't even mention on-going repairs to our general roads and pot holes and the workmanship around this. Very very scary!! Here's hoping for some divine intervention!
