Threat to sue after 'torture' in Bay prison

A PORT Elizabeth human rights attorney has threatened to sue the Correctional Services Department after his client was allegedly brutally tortured by prison warders for almost a week.

During this time, Egon Oswald was also denied access to the man.

After bumping heads with correctional services for almost a week, St Albans Prison eventually escorted prisoner Wondile Tozi to the high court yesterday afternoon, permitting Oswald to briefly consult with him.

"He has extensive injuries," Oswald said. "We will definitely bring a civil suit."
