Quandary over which side will face Despatch

EASTERN Province club rugby officials are in a quandary over who will play Despatch in the final of the Grand Challenge.

Despatch, who convincingly topped the table, have been waiting for more than a month to hear who their opponents will be in the final.

The dispute is about PE SAPS having fielded players who were not registered in time.

The possible teams to face Despatch are Harlequins, Gardens or PE SAPS. EP rugby fixtures and logs administrator Jap Claasen confirmed a meeting took place last night but would not say which teams were disputing to be in the final.

"We will be meeting [tonight] to discuss the matter. After that we might know who will play Despatch. It would be wrong to tell you who the teams are, so I cannot say who are the teams contesting to be in the final," Claasen said yesterday.
