D-day for Kings

26 October 2012
George Byron

EVEN though it has been dubbed "mission impossible", defiant fighting talk is still emanating from the EP Kings camp ahead of their Currie Cup promotion rugby showdown against the Free State Cheetahs tonight.

Despite being thrashed 53-14 in the first leg in Bloemfontein, the Kings are plotting what their chief executive Anele Pamba has billed the "fightback of the century" at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (kick-off 7.10pm).

The scale of the challenge facing the Kings is mirrored in the points mountain they will have to climb against a Cheetahs side who outclassed them in Bloemfontein.

With the log-point system being used in the playoffs, the Cheetahs earned five points and the Kings none in Bloemfontein.

This means the Kings must win with a four-try bonus point and deny the Cheetahs one tonight before they can think of the 39-point deficit they need to overcome in order to gain promotion.
