COUNCILLORS, municipal officials and some ANC members have come out in strong support of suspended Nelson Mandela Bay communications director Roland Williams, saying he is being targeted by municipal bosses to settle a political score.

This comes after the municipality's internal audit division handed over a report to the police detailing allegations of misconduct against Williams for his involvement in the controversial gantries tender.

The head of internal audit, Bonnie Chan, also alleged that Williams was in hiding and could not be tracked down to be served with papers, forcing the city to freeze his salary to smoke him out of hiding.

Williams has rubbished the claims, calling the officials liars and "sycophants who share secrets with Satan". He said their attempts to freeze his salary were not successful.
