RIAAN Jeggels scored his second century of the season to lead Heatherbank to a seven-wicket victory over Mecer NMMU2 in an EP Super A League cricket fixture yesterday.
Jeggels was in sublime form as he smashed 116 off only 80 balls to help his side comfortably chase down their target of 196. He struck 10 sixes, five consecutively off spinner Werner Potgieter, and 10 fours.
A fighting half-century by captain Chris Arnold saved the day for SA Home Loans Union in their fixture against Motherwell in St George's Park at the weekend.
Arnold was forced to perform a rescue act as his team slipped to 30 for five after 16 overs on a difficult surface. Arnold got his head down and accumulated 76 off 130 balls. He stroked eight fours in a 68-run partnership with Seshaan Padayachee, who weighed in with 28 despite the best efforts of Motherwell's Lungiso Zako, who took three for 18.
That partnership proved to be the difference between the sides as Union dismissed Motherwell for a disappointing 74 to set up an 80-run victory. Seamer Ryan Harris took four for 11 in 10 overs, while Raymond Hamilton claimed three for eight.
At Dan Qeqe Stadium, Despatch edged United Brothers by two wickets thanks to a fine allround performance by Nigel Brouwers.
Northville won the "Battle of Finnis Street" as they overwhelmed rivals Northerns by 73 runs in a low-scoring game, reduced to 40 overs. Donald Bruiners was the best of the Northville batsmen with 29 in a total of 129 for six, while offspinner Wayne Coetzee took three for four to help rout Northerns for 56.
