DSG produce sterling performances in rowing

30 October 2012
DSG have produced some impressive performances in various rowing regattas in recent weeks excelling in East London and Knysna.

Seven pupils took part in the South African indoor championships in East London. There was fierce competition in the under-14 age-group, but Siphokazi Thabede never gave up and finished third.

Unfortunately, the u-15 girls had limited competition and were moved into the u-16 event. Tyler-Jo Moodie was the fastest u-15 and in the u-16 event, DSG had a clear advantage, Jen Cleary coming second and Erryn Green first. The u-18 race was a highlight of the day and all the rowers fought hard over the course of 2km. Chloe Sumner was the winner of this race. She also got the fastest woman award for the regatta.

In tough conditions in Knysna, the DSG girls took full advantage of the flat water, coming home with six first place medals and second in a further seven races.

The heads race was much anticipated, with the first crew having huge boots to fill following last season. The girls dominated the competition, winning convincingly by 12 seconds.

DSG were second overall in the girls' division, an impressive effort by a small club with only 14 rowers.
