DA practising disruptive politics

THE DA is showing its true colours more and more in that since May last year it is only in council for disruptive politics. Leon de Villiers is clearly frustrated that the DA lost the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in last year's municipal elections and yet the DA was very confident of winning.

It has now become a normal practice of the DA to hold council and standing committee meetings to ransom by walking out, causing the meetings not to have a quorum. I often wonder whether De Villiers and his cronies are mandated by their provincial and national leaders to disrupt council meetings.

On Friday at a municipal public accounts meeting De Villiers, the leader of the DA, walked out of the meeting saying he was hungry ("Hunger spurs DA walkout at council meeting", October 29). Strangely all the DA councillors followed him, leaving the meeting without a quorum.

This action was clear, showing the DA was not prepared to discuss the next item on the agenda, which was a thorny issue for it. I would appeal to the public to attend council and standing committee meetings more often to see the conduct of the DA for themselves.

On Thursday October 24 the DA also walked out of the safety and security standing committee meeting because it refused to speak about the disaster caused by the rain because the item was not on the agenda. The public needs to take note of these actions of the DA, because it is now obvious that the DA in the metro does not care about service delivery and the poor.

The leadership of De Villiers is racist and divisive. It's clear he has not adapted to the new democracy.

The contempt and condescending manner with which he deals with blacks is disgusting.

At the previous municipal public accounts meeting he said a black councillor of one of the minority parties had half a brain. Is there anyone out there whothat can save us from this tyrant?
