R300m needed for Walmer land

NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality must scrape together about R300-million needed to buy and service land earmarked for housing development in Walmer township.

Following another fiery protest in the township this week, a council committee yesterday resolved to pursue the purchasing of the land, and source the money from other government departments as the municipality simply could not afford it.

The resolutions of the committee – comprising mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and various portfolio chairmen – were made pending the approval of a full council sitting later this month.
