Olympia step up their game

02 November 2012
WITH Olympia A losing to NMMU last week, they had to step up their game against Aryan C in the final round of Nelson Mandela Table Tennis Union fixtures this week.

In a close encounter, and with Monde Cola showing fine form for Olympia, the scores where level at 5-5 with the last doubles to be played. Selvan Sammy and Cola rose to the occasion to edge Ridaa Hendricks and Philo Moodaley 6-11 11-7 11-9 in that encounter to clinch the match 6-5.

In another exciting contest, Booysens Pride defeated Aryan B 10-1, although the final scoreline was not a true reflection of the fixture.

The individual matches were all close, but Michael de Kock and Vernal Higgins showed their class in winning all their ties.

In the two remaining matches, NMMU A beat St Marks and St Johns 9-2, Thembelani Mogodla and Rajen Ryan being unbeaten, while Marc Canterbury helped Aryan D to an 8-3 win over Olympia B.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Closed will be held on Saturday, starting at 9am at the Malabar Community Centre.
