I COULD not agree more with the editorial comment, "Police must have wheels for the job" (October 31), that we will always be victims of crime unless visible policing is a reality. SAPS will never beat this nightmare on its own unless a municipal police force is formed.
We must do a reality check when it comes to issues concerning our safety. The top structure of this municipality and the MECs enjoy the best security resources available only to them.
Who will be held accountable for the costs of workshops attended since 2001 for the establishment of the metro police force? It is a shock to learn this metro would rather spend money on Afcon than trying to make the lives of the citizens better.
Why not form a task team to investigate the feasibility of the Afcon tournament here in Nelson Mandela Bay?
My heart goes out to the senior citizens of this metro ("Elderly woman almost raped", October 30). Whosoever can hear my plea, please make this metro police force a reality and get my vote.
