The price of petrol will drop by 10 cents a litre on Wednesday, said the energy department.
The price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content would increase by 10.2 cents a litre, and that with a 0.005 percent sulphur content by 9.2 cents a litre, the department said on Friday (02/11/2012).
The adjustments would incorporate a slate levy increase of 2.2 cents a litre. A slate levy is occasionally implemented to pay fuel companies, if the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel during a month exceeds the "basic fuel price” — which is calculated by the department of energy.
The wholesale price for illuminating paraffin would increase by four cents a litre, and the single maximum retail price for LP gas would increase by one cent a kilogram.
The energy department said the price changes were based on decreasing crude oil and international product prices, the weakening of the rand against the dollar, and the downgrading of the country’s credit ratings. - Sapa
