A WEEK of colourful fashion, a dose of culture at the Savoy Theatre and a song and dance on the sprawling lawns of the Boardwalk.
The trip back to the '80s attended by proud parents and the theatre alumni was a blast. Trying to have a conversation there difficult as theatre people seem to have a different dialect to everyone else.
So I turned to my social butterflies for normalcy, PE's entertainment couple Pieter and Jana Rademeyer – I have not seen these two out in public for a while. Maybe the bambino is keeping them busy. They are still so in love, it was adorable to see Jana serving her husband from the buffet.
Theatre veteran and teacher Marlene Pieterse was beaming from ear to ear as her protégées were on show. One of those was Tammi Turner accompanied by Algoa FM's Jason Perry – she wore the most amazing and unusual shoes.
I gathered she is a monster Lady Gaga fan and the pair are going to the concert later in the year. She already has her outfit planned, as any self-respecting monster would!
The NMMU Collective Graduate fashion show is always a highlight of the year and fashionistas came out to play to see what the new talent had drummed up.
Bradley Goldman – the MC for the event who is a hottie himself – is normally a fantastic host but was a mixture of hormones gone haywire this night as his jokes got lamer as the night progressed.
I could not blame the man as I had my own 50 Shades of Grey moments when the models came out; the fine men modelling the clothes were fantastic hangers. I see designer Morné van der Schyff is taking Movember very seriously, he is now sporting a serious moustache and beard. Suits you, ChiChi, love the salt and pepper.
The white Zulu boy Johnny Clegg jetted into town to perform at the Boardwalk as part of his costal tour. What a fine performer the man is. Though he is aging, the energy levels are still high. Graced with beautiful weather we danced the afternoon away. I wonder if Stone Sizani was in town to see the show or was it just a sideline – your Gossip Girl spotted him chatting away to tour publicist Michelle Campbell.
Earlier your Skinnerbek was running around like a headless chicken looking for those juicy parties. On Thursday yours truly made her way to the studios of Bay TV as they were announcing they would soon be part of DSTV – a move that will put the Bay community on the map. The board members came dressed to the nines – pity I could not say the same about the staff members. Also present was poet Siyasanga Khambi aka, The Empress. She delivered a short poem about the history of the Eastern Cape. Au shame, poor soul – she stumbled and forgot her lines but she hid it well.
So, in case you didn't know, from November 13 Bay TV will be on channel 260 on your DSTV.
On Friday night Skinnerbek put on her best gear and headed to Liquid Lounge. Wow – they have kept up the standard. I must say the place is a breath of fresh air for PE peeps. You get all these yummy hunks strutting around with their BEE shoes. The ladies were also not disappointing on their killer heels and mini dresses.
Just a word of advice from yours truly: if you can't walk with heels, stay away from the bar because it's not a good sight seeing you wobbling in your heels making a moemish of yourself. Skinnerbek had such a good time sipping on cocktails for a while she thought she was in Mozambique.
My next stop for the weekend was Diamondz Lounge in Parliament Street for the launch of DJ Pepsi's most anticipated album Royal House Collection 2. This album features great collaborations with some of the world's best vocalists such as Judith Sephuma, Bruno and Monique Bingham. I was sure looking forward to shaking what my mama gave me, as Pepsi is a legend of house music. But you should have seen the disappointment on my face when I heard his show was cancelled because of a misunderstanding between Pepsi and the promoters.
Plans are under way for another show.
Ooh! Nearly forgot – probably because my invitation got lost somewhere in the post. Umhlobo Wenene BEE presenter Mafa Bavuma walked down the aisle with his sweetheart this weekend. So ladies eat your hearts out as Mafa is off the menu. Now back to reality – let's meet again same time next week. Ciao.
