THE feud between ANC councillor Marion Harning and Nelson Mandela Bay internal auditor Bonnie Chan intensified yesterday when Harning stormed out of a committee meeting, saying she could not sit in the same room as Chan, who is suing her and two other councillors for R1-million.
Chan wants Harning, ANC chief whip Joy Seale and UDM councillor Mongameli Bobani to pay for interrogating her and accusing her of being racist in a municipal public accounts committee (MPAC) meeting in July last year.
The dispute follows allegations by councillors that Chan had tampered with the recruitment process to hire a white, male friend in an affirmative action post in her department. Chan has vehemently denied it, saying the recruitment process was overseen by human resources. The councillors were personally attacking her integrity and credibility, she said.
