ANC manifesto is 'like a romance novel'

14 January 2014
The ANC's election manifesto is no modern-day gospel but more like a romance novel, the Workers and Socialist Party said on Tuesday (14/01/2014).

"The ANC's manifesto is [not]... capable of inspiring the masses," spokesman Mametlwe Sebei said in a statement.

"It is more like a Mills & Boon novel - read in five minutes, forgotten in 10 and offering no lasting satisfaction."

The ANC launched its election manifesto in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga at the weekend.

Sebei said the African National Congress had made no effort to address the issues of unemployment, inequality and poverty facing the mass working class, the poor and the youth.

In particular, the party was unimpressed with what it called the cynicism of the ANC manifesto's talk of creating six million job opportunities.

"All the ANC can serve up are empty phrases and policies so conditionally worded they are an insult to the ordinary voters of this country," Sebei said.

"The neo-liberal anti-working class policies of [President Jacob] Zuma's first term will continue."
