Neighbours tell of shock at discovery of weapons cache

NEIGHBOURS from smallholdings in the Van Stadens Gorge told yesterday of their shock when they learnt that a large cache of arms and ammunition had been found at a nearby house.

Police said the cache was found after officers were first called to a domestic disturbance.

A 46-year-old suspect now faces charges of attempted murder, for allegedly attempting to shoot his 52-year-old wife, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of prohibited firearms - including R4 rifles - and ammunition.

He cannot be named at this stage and will appear in court tomorrow.
