Three in court for Barkly East farm murder

21 January 2014
Two men and a woman accused of killing a farmer appeared in the Barkly East Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (21/01/2014), Eastern Cape police said.

The case against Bongani Nojokwe, 31, Vumile Dingalibala, 28, and Thandeka Mthiyane, 33, was postponed until January 30 for a formal bail hearing, Captain Ursula Roelofse said.

Detectives traced the men to Gauteng after an intensive investigation following the murder of Sarel Pretorius on the farm Rooipoort last Tuesday. His wife was found locked in a bathroom.

"The detective team worked tirelessly, following up information which led to the arrest of the two suspects in Hillbrow, Gauteng on Saturday... within days of the incident reported to the police," Eastern Cape provincial police commissioner Celiwe Binta said at the time.

Mthiyane appeared in court with the men, as she was believed to be an alleged accomplice from Gauteng, who was linked to the farm murder, Roelofse said.

Police seized R74,000 cash and two 9mm pistols during the arrest. - Sapa
