Walmer housing plan given the green light

AFTER almost two years of ongoing negotiations with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality about land for housing development in Walmer township, the community were overjoyed yesterday as they moved a step closer to receiving their RDP houses.

Councillors approved the community's business plan to build their own houses - a giant step which would not only see the 3500 families' dignity restored, but also see them trained with the skills to build their homes.

The latest development comes after the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements in October bought 43.72ha of land for R40-million near the Walmer Country Club in Victoria Drive.
