Saru decision on Kings delayed again

DEFIANT Eastern Province rugby boss Cheeky Watson remains upbeat about the prospects of the Kings being promoted into an enlarged eight-team Currie Cup Premier Division despite renewed opposition from rival unions determined to block his team’s progress to the top flight.

The SA Rugby Union said yesterday that a meeting scheduled for Friday to discuss the Kings’ promotion had been postponed for a third time until February 13 because the proposal was unlikely to reach the required two-thirds majority.

The Kings have already agreed that, if promoted, they will forfeit the right to play a promotion match against the team finishing bottom of the SA Super Rugby conference.
